Two men have entered the priesthood for the
Diocese of Davenport. Deacon Hai Duc Dinh and Deacon Joseph
Sia were ordained to the priesthood on May 10 at Sacred Heart Cathedral by
Bishop Martin Amos.![]() Fr. Dinh, 45, was born in Saigon, Vietnam. He attended schools in Vietnam and graduated from the University of Technical Pedagogy in Saigon where he studied technical drawing. After several attempts to escape Vietnam, he made it to the United States and joined up with his family in Davenport. Before entering seminary studies, Fr. Dinh worked as a cook, then a meat cutter. He studied philosophy at St. Ambrose University in Davenport before completing his theology studies at the University of St. Mary of the Lake — Mundelein Seminary in Mundelein, Ill. Fr. Dinh completed his internship at Our Lady of Victory parish in Davenport in 2006 and did his clinical pastoral education at Genesis Medical Center in Davenport in 2007. On Aug. 18, 2007, he was ordained a transitional deacon by Bishop Amos at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Davenport. He celebrated his first Mass on May 11 at Our Lady of Victory in Davenport. Another Mass was celebrated on May 11 at Sacred Heart Cathedral. Fr. Sia, 33, was born in Manila, Philippines. He attended schools there and graduated with a medical sciences degree from the University of the Philippines and a doctor of medicine from the same university. After graduating, he was a university research associate at the Institute of Human Genetics at the University of the Philippines from 2000-2002. He was then a graduate research assistant at the University of Iowa from 2002-03. He completed his theology studies at University of St. Mary of the Lake — Mundelein Seminary in Mundelein, Ill. Fr. Sia completed his internship at St. Paul the Apostle parish in Davenport in 2006 and his clinical pastoral education at Interfaith House in Chicago in 2007. On Aug. 18, 2007, he was ordained a transitional deacon by Bishop Amos at St. Paul the Apostle. He celebrated his first Mass on May 11 at St. Paul the Apostle Church. Fathers Dinh and Sia will receive their ministry assignments after their ordination.
