As primary educators of their children, parents have the right and responsibility to choose the best means of educating them. Historically, Catholic parents have focused on Catholic schools and parish Faith Formation programs. Currently, some parents are choosing other means such as home schooling to educate their children. Canon law, however, clearly stipulates that the Bishop of the Diocese approves any and all faith formation programs if they are to be "Catholic". While home schooling may be a necessary and viable option for a variety of reasons, faith formation is also the responsibility of the parish school and parish faith formation programs. All faith formation programs are the responsibility of the local pastor.
As you have heard in the news about getting prepared for the possible Pandemic Influenza Outbreak. We have found several sites and checklists that you can download to use in your home, business, child care, churches, and schools. Please review this information and put a plan together for your community. Please visit the Faith Formation Library, under Crisis Management Plans for more information. 1st Day Project (Davenport/Bettendorf): Pick up of school supplies by the Dav./Bett postal workers is July 31. Volunteers from our schools are needed to count, sort and distribute school supplies on July 31 and August 1. Please contact Virginia Trujillo with any questions, 563-324-1912 x256, trujillo@davenportdiocese.org
