Implementation of Summorum Pontificum Noting that the Holy Father has relaxed the restrictions on using the 1962 Missal as a way to foster reconciliation in the Church, Bishop Amos has stated that “[t]he rightful desire of some of the faithful to celebrate according to these rites must be balanced against the Holy Father’s insistence that the unity and normal pastoral care of parishes is not to be disturbed; the ordinary form of the Mass must continue to be made available.” This way, the introduction of the 1962 Mass into the Diocese can be done as a part of overall pastoral planning, taking both the needs of the faithful and available resources into consideration. In order to assist in the reception of the Holy Father's letter, and in order to foster the reconciliation and unity that prompted its writing, the following interim policy is in effect for our diocese:

Baptisms not recognized by the Roman Catholic Church In order to be recognized as valid, baptisms in other Christian communities must be done with water (according to the practice of that community: sprinkled, poured, immersion, submersion) and in the name of the Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) as understood by the Catholic Church. As a guide to assist in decision-making, this document lists communities whose baptism is not recognized by the Catholic Church. The document may not be exhaustive, so questions about individual cases should be referred to the Office of Liturgy (RCIA) or the Tribunal (permissions or dispensations for marriage and related matters).
The RCIA and Orthodox Christians A very brief introduction to the special issues raised when an Orthodox Christian seeks full communion with the Catholic Church.
Those involved in RCIA ministry are invited to join an e-mail listserv organized by the Office of Liturgy and the Office of Communications at the chancery. If you are interested in networking with others who minister in the RCIA please e-mail the Director of Liturgy.
