Welcoming the 3rd Edition of the Roman Missal

RM3On the First Sunday of Advent, 2011, Roman Catholics in the United States began praying the Eucharistic Liturgy using the third edition of the Roman Missal. This webpage is dedicated to assisting our communities in the work of implementing the new Missal. While a great deal of catechesis has already taken place, our task is just beginning. As we grow into this new Missal, we will be called to a deeper appreciation of and engagement in the liturgy. Mystagogy is a life-long undertaking.

Preparing for the New Roman Missal (Revised 8/21/10)

This series of articles was originally published in the Catholic Messenger, and included such topics as a look at liturgical languages and the process of translation, an exploration of concerns regarding the new translation as well as what we are gaining with the new translation, and an introduction to the texts for the Order of Mass--explaining what has changed and why. With the advent of the revised Order of Mass (2010), the collection of articles has been updated.

Praying the Mass: Entering the Mystery

Originally published by the Catholic Messenger, this second series of 16 articles by Deacon Agnoli is intended to help us better understand what we are doing at Mass, to enter the mystery more fully, and to celebrate the liturgy actively and artfully. The articles cover the parts of the Mass in order.

Mystical Body, Mystical Voice: Encountering Christ in the Words of the Mass

As an initiative of the Liturgical Institute at the University of Saint Mary of the Lake and LTP, this book uses the texts of the third typical edition of the Roman Missal to illustrate how the liturgy is enriched and the Church's understanding of the Second Vatican Council is deepened through the translation of the Missal. This book is not simply a guide that explains the revised texts as if we were simply changing the words we say at Mass; rather, it seizes the opportunity of the promulgation of third typical edition of the Roman Missal as a valuable vehicle for liturgical catechesis. "We have divided the Mass into 25 parts and we have made a video for each one. Each video [about 3 minutes long] explains the meaning, purpose, and background on a part of the Mass, explains pertinent scriptural references, and includes personal stories from parishioners. We will also tell you if there are changes in the words for that part of the Mass because of the new translation of the Roman Missal coming in Advent of 2011." The videos are also being published as a set by The Liturgical Press.
