Operation Rice Bowl: Operation Rice Bowl Grant proposal deadline is May 31, 2008. Operation Rice Bowl is the official Lenten program of Catholic Relief Services. Each Lent, parishes, school and other faith communities participate in Operation Rice Bowl. Operation Rice Bowl calls Catholics to reach out to assist our brothers and sisters around the world. Your support helps families around the world through Catholic Relief Services development projects.75% of Rice Bowl proceeds come to Catholic Relief Services the funds help the development of projects designed to increase food security in communities in over 40 countries around the world.
2008 Operation Rice Bowl Grant Criteria Grant applications for the 25% local share of the Operation Rice Bowl contributions for the 2008 Lenten season are now available at the Diocesan Social Action Office. Non-profit organizations that work to alleviate hunger and poverty within the Diocese of Davenport are eligible to apply. You may receive the grant applications and criteria by contacting the Social Action Office at (563)324-1911 or over the web at www.davenportdiocese.org under Offices, Social Action. The deadline for grant applications to be submitted is May 31, 2008. Grant requests are easily submitted, as they require only a letter explaining the mission of the organization and what use the organization would make of the funds, consistent with the mission of Catholic Relief Services in alleviating hunger. Such missions as “meals on wheels,” food pantries, after school lunch programs for low income families, and similar have received funding in the past.
